Peoria, Illinois (April 20th, 2021) – The Walmart Foundation, in partnership with Feeding America, has selected The Peoria Area Food Bank to receive $35,000 for the FY21 Walmart Foundation Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Application Assistance and Capacity Building for Start-up/Scale-up Programs.
This grant will guide The Peoria Area Food Bank’s efforts as we establish and expand our SNAP program. With 39,630 people in Central Illinois who have been challenged by food insecurity, we now have the potential to address their needs. Above all, it will enable access to healthy food for individuals and families in the Peoria, Mason, and Tazewell counties.
Walmart and Walmart Foundation is one of Feeding America’s largest donors of food and funds. They have contributed more than 4.6 billion pounds of food and more than $140 million to Feeding America since 2005. Since the launch of “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” Campaign in 2014, Walmart, participating suppliers, and customers have cumulatively raised nearly $120 million for Feeding America and its network of local food banks. In FY19, the Walmart Foundation invested $3.7 million to assist Feeding America in enhancing and expanding the capacity of their SNAP programs.
