WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (April 22, 2020) — Hy-Vee, Inc., in partnership with its melon supplier Sol Group, donated more than 2,000 jumbo, seedless watermelons to two Peoria, Illinois-based food banks today – Midwest Food Bank and Peoria Area Food Bank.

Hy-Vee delivered more than 1,000 jumbo seedless watermelons to each food bank. Each weighed approximately 20 pounds for a total donation of approximately 40,000 pounds. The donation was made as food banks struggle to keep their shelves stocked due to increased demand from the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Product will benefit communities across Illinois and eastern Iowa.

The donation to Midwest Food Bank – Peoria and Peoria Area Food Bank is part of a series of donations that Hy-Vee and Sol are making to help provide fresh produce to food banks across the grocer’s eight-state region.
