The Citizens Utility Board (CUB), Sierra Club, and Elevate Energy is hosting a public meeting to introduce the Community Energy Savings Initiative. A panel of speakers from CUB, Sierra Club, and Central Illinois Healthy Community Alliance will discuss various energy efficiency topics.

The Initiative is sponsored by state Sen. David Koehler, NAACP Peoria Branch, Black Justice Project, Peoria DSA, PCCEO, and Change Peoria.

Attendees will learn:

*How to spot unnecessary charges on natural gas, electric and phone bills.

*Energy efficiency programs and rebates that can help people cut their utility bills.

*Programs such as Peak Time Rewards and Power Smart Pricing that could save consumers money.

*How to avoid scams from alternative electric and gas suppliers and make the right choices in Illinois’ energy markets.

*Simple steps to save money on utility bills and make homes more comfortable

What: Public meeting to learn the benefits of energy efficiency in saving money and making homes more comfortable

When: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb 9

Where: 511 N Richard Allen Dr, Peoria, IL 61605

Who: Energy efficiency experts and local volunteers will be available for media at the time of the event.

Participants should bring copies of their gas, electric and phone bills for free one-on-one expert analysis.

Food will be provided starting at 1 p.m.

Participants will have the chance to win a Nest Thermostat and a Walmart gift card.

There also will be an activities table for children during the event.
