Family Development Specialist (Head Start)

Department : Head Start
Location : 923 Webster St, Peoria, IL 61605
Salary : $14 - $17

JOB SUMMARY:

The Family Development Specialist of PCCEO Head Start will support the Family Development Coordinator with recruitment, coordination and follow up of services for Head Start families including but not limited to: parent engagement activities, personal development, specific health related services and self-sufficiency programming through the provision of services for Head Start parents and their children as required by performance standards and related contents for the Head Start Program.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s or Associates degree in social service or human development field;
  • Must have two (2) years Case Management experience or equivalent experience in social service or human development;
  • Ability to manage groups;
  • Ability to make sound professional judgments;
  • Effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Knowledgeable of computer software and applications;
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job description;
  • Must have and maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s License, reliable transportation and insurance coverage as required by the State of Illinois, and qualify for a CDL license.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Is responsible for recruiting and processing the intake of a specified number of eligible children regardless of race, sex, creed, national origin or handicapping condition as established by the Family Development/ERSEA Coordinator;
  • Must be able to identify families and children in need of social services, make referral, follow up on referrals and document each phase of the referral process;
  • Develop and identify resources for Head Start families in need of crisis intervention and social services;
  • Maintain an accurate data filing and retrieval system for the assigned caseloads;
  • Recruit parents of children enrolled in Head Start for volunteer opportunities at Head Start centers;
  • Case management: Assist families and implement individualized Family Partnership Agreements that describe family goals, strengths, responsibilities, and other supports with timelines and strategies for achieving goals;
  • Absences: Conduct well-child checks daily for those families who have unexcused absences;
  • Conduct at least two (2) home visits to Head Start families;
  • Record information on assigned families, data entry through PROMIS and case management with adequate provisions for maintaining confidentiality;
  • Submit a monthly report to the Family Development Coordinator on the status of each family on caseload;
  • Identify and prepare cases to be presented at case review staffing;
  • Participates in transition activities established by the job description;
  • Must have and maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s license, reliable transportation and insurance as required by the State of Illinois;

Bus Driver

JOB SUMMARY:

This position will be directly responsible for the safe transportation of Head Start children to and from specified locations.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.  Must have a valid Illinois School Bus Permit and CDL. Must participate in no less than 15 professional development hours per year – to be documented in Gateway Excelerate profile.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Knowledge of the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) Radio Communication Codes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the safe delivery of all passengers to their prearranged destination.
  • Maintain control at all times of the vehicle and its passengers to assure safe passage, regardless of adverse conditions or the improper actions of others.
  • Maintain proper licenses, permits and training as required by state and local authorities.
  • Secure state certification on all traffic and safety laws of the DOT and DCFS.
  • Check daily the operational functions/features of his/her assigned vehicle and notify supervisor of problem areas or take corrective action.
  • Assure the safekeeping and operation of all safety equipment, i.e. flares, first aid kit and fire extinguisher.
  • Maintain all areas of confidentiality concerning matters relating to Head Start children, families and the Head Start program.
  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the job description.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s license, reliable transportation and insurance coverage as required by the State of Illinois.
  • 10. Effectively executes and meets performance requirements of all other duties assigned when not on the bus.
  • 11. Supervise monitors performance in preparing for and conducting bus routes, including implementing change of custody procedures.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a valid Illinois School Bus Permit and CDL.

Family Development Specialist (Early Head Start)

JOB SUMMARY:

The EHS Family Development Specialist is responsible for planning and scheduling home visits (1.5 hours/per week) encompassing child health, development services and family case management. Low income pregnant women and families with infants and toddlers are the target population. Direct supervision is provided by the Family Partnerships Coordinators. Additional support is offered by the Education/Disabilities, Family Services and Community Partnerships Coordinators. Evening activities and family socializations are scheduled.  Opportunities to recruit new families generate referrals and assist families to manage their life is a rewarding aspect of this position.

Early Childhood Teacher

JOB SUMMARY:

The Early Childhood Teacher under the supervision of the Education Coordinator for the Head Start ensures the growth and development of the children enrolled in the center.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • An AA/BA or BS advanced degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education or;
  • A degree in a field related to Early Childhood Education with a minimum of 6 hours in Child Development or
  • Early Childhood Education experience in teaching preschool children and the State of Illinois-04 certificate or ;
  • A state-awarded certificate for preschool teachers that meets or exceeds the requirements for a child development associate credential;
  • Completion of the CDA credentialing program of the Council for Professional Recognition with a current CDA credential with preschool center base endorsement and;
  • Experience in early childhood education or a related field.

  • A State awarded certificate for infants/toddler teachers that meets or exceeds the requirements for a child development associate credential; or
  • Completion of the credentialing program of the CDA National Credential Award System with a current CDA credential with infant/toddler center base endorsement; and
  • Prior experience working with infants and toddlers’ and
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job description;
  • Must have and maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s License, reliable transportation and insurance coverage as required by the State of Illinois.
