WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D-IL), a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, announced a $6,234,234 grant for Peoria Citizens for Economic Opportunity, Inc.’s Head Start programs from the Department of Health and Human Services. Head Start promotes school readiness for young children from underserved families by providing programming to enhance their cognitive, social and emotional development from birth to age five. Congresswoman Bustos sits on the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education subcommittee, which oversees the Department of Health and Human Services.
“Head Start programs are key to providing our children with a strong early childhood education and setting them up for future success both inside and outside of the classroom,” said Congresswoman Bustos, a member of the Appropriations subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education. “I’m pleased these federal dollars will make their way back into the Peoria community and provide essential services to hardworking families with young children.”
“Our Head Start and Early Head Start programs are key to helping meet the developmental needs of children,” said McFarland A. Bragg II, President and Chief Executive Officer of Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity, Inc. “Today’s investment will go a long way in support of families and children seeking to achieve their goals and I’d like to thank Congresswoman Bustos for her leadership on this important issue.”
