Peoria, IL April 22, 2020 – 101.1 ESPN Peoria recently raised nearly $10,000 for the Peoria Area Food Bank through its Central Illinois Food Drive Radio-thon with Jim Mattson and Tim van Straten. The 12-hour event took place on Thursday, April 30, 2020.

“We are so thankful and blessed that the team at Advanced Media Partners came through for us at a time when we need food the most,” stated Wayne Cannon, Peoria Area Food Bank Manager. “Hunger is a huge issue in Central Illinois and particularly now, individuals and families are being challenged even more as we all face this healthcare and economic crisis. Our thanks go out to everyone in the community who participated and donated to the Radio-thon.”

Funds were raised through donations from listeners and an array of auction items that included sports memorabilia, rounds of golf at local golf courses, auto detailing, chocolate and wine pairings, jewelry and much more. In addition, interviews were held with local athletes and celebrities including Baseball Hall of Famer Jim Thome, American Reality Television Personality Colton Underwood, Bradley University Men’s Basketball Head Coach Brian Wardle, University of Illinois Men’s Basketball Head Coach Brad Underwood and play-by-play voice of the Chicago Bulls, Chuck Swirsky.

“The Radio-thon exceeded our expectations in funds raised for the Peoria Area Food Bank but also with the generosity of the community and businesses that supported the event,” stated Jim Mattson. “There were several business and organizations that provided items for the online auction. To them we extend our sincerest thanks. You truly represent the heart and giving spirit of our community.”
