The PCCEO Lead Safe-Peoria program, in
conjunction with the Peoria City/County Public Health
Department, the Illinois Department of Health and the
PCCEO Weatherization program, is a County-wide project
designed to reduce the occurrence of lead poisoning in
children ages six and under. While the primary target
groups of this project are low-income households with
children age six and under, any household which tests
positive for the presence of lead may request these services.

Households which are targeted for Lead
Safe-Peoria will first undergo tests for lead in dust,
paint, soil samples taken from in and around the home
as well as possibly blood samples taken from household
members by the Peoria City/County Health Department. Once
lead has been identified to be on the premises, PCCEO
will work with local licensed contractors to remove its
presence. After the lead has been mitigated, PCCEO and
the Peoria County Health Department will inspect the household
to assure that all traces of lead have been properly mitigated.
All field staff employed in the Lead Safe-Peoria
program must attend Lead Abatement Supervisor Training
and possess a current Illinois Lead Abatement Supervisor
license, in accordance with the licensing requirements
stated in the Illinois Lead Poisoning Prevention Act and
Code.
